Various campuses have on-campus bridging programs for incoming students to transit to college. Vassar has her own transitions program, created with the needs of first generation, low income, and/or undocumented college students in mind. Yale University and Carleton College in recent years have made endeavors to offer online bridging programs for incoming students. Should Vassar also make effort to implement similar program? Are we faced with similar challenges, or totally different ones, which require us to explore other options? This 2-hour program organized by the Mathematics and Statistics Department and Vassar Transitions Program invites the Yale ONEXYS program director Jim Rolf to Vassar for a presentation, brings two Vassar participants at a recent hack-a-thon on Carleton’s CUBE program for a report, followed by an open discussion with the audience on exploring online bridging program options for Vassar.
