Congratulations to all our students
It has been a great year in the Math Department. Closing the academic year we can count among our students' achievements:
• Josh Eike '12 and Chenxi Cai '11 scored in the 30's on the annual William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition. This placed them in the top 10% of the 4296 students nationwide who participated in the competition.
• Hao Fu '13, Chenxi Cai '11, and Jiayi Bao '14 made up Vassar's team to participate in the annual Mathematical Contest in Modeling among the 2775 teams competing nationwide. They placed in the top 30% and earned the title of Meritorious Winner.
• Named to Sigma Xi for excellence in science research were Bren Cavallo '11, Mark Durniak '11 and Diana Tordoff '11.
• Named to Phi Beta Kappa are Mark Durniak '11 and Ngoc Nguyen '11.
• Finally, the Mary Evelyn Wells - Gertrude Smith Prize for excellence in the study of mathematics goes this year to Bren Cavallo '11 and Griffin Reiner-Roth '11.
