John McCleary

Professor of Mathematics on the Elizabeth Stillman Williams Chair and Chair of Mathematics

Professor John McCleary is the Chair of the Mathematics Department at Vassar College. He received his Ph.D. from Temple University in algebraic topology under the direction of James Stasheff. In algebraic topology his interests are in homotopy theory and its applications to manifold theory and geometry. He also has interests in the history of mathematics, particularly the history of geometry and of topology. He has published papers on elementary number theory and mathematical physics.
